The Water Authority issues discharge permits for industries regulated by the EPA (40 CFR Sections 405-471).
The Industrial Pretreatment Engineer and staff obtain and evaluate information on industrial user compliance through field inspections and regulatory monitoring. When monitoring results indicate the user is not meeting permit conditions, the Water Authority will take enforcement action which may include Notices of Violation (NOVs), penalty fees or shutting off water service.
Significant Industrial Users (SIU) or industries discharging an average of 25,000 gallons per day or more of process wastewater to the sewer collection system also must be permitted.
Industrial Pretreatment recognizes permitted industries that have a high rate of compliance with permit conditions with the Annual Excellence Awards. Gold or Silver awards are given to industries meeting reporting and discharge requirements.
