STEP C – Sludge Dewatering

We Spin Sludge to Get the Water Out

The sludge in the digesters is made out of food, poop, and water. Water is heavy. In order to make the sludge into compost, fertilizer, we have to move it to another place. We can save gasoline if we get that water out. That’s why we spin it, like the spin cycle on your washing machine. Every day we spin and then truck about 500,000 gallons of sludge from the plant. It will be made into compost at our Soil Amendment Facility.
