Did you know that the Water Authority does field trips for local area fourth graders most school days? We know many of you may have family that goes to those schools, wouldn’t it be nice to get paid to chaperone at one of those, or other field trips, or help in the community in other ways?
The Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority is pleased to announce “Water Ways to Help” initiative.
The purpose of this is to help our community, create a recognizable presence from the WUA, and create intentional opportunities for our employees to engage in the needs of schools and other community organizations that benefit the community. Activities supporting our community may also be terrific team building opportunities for departments!
Employees are encouraged to participate in approved community events with incentives from the Water Utility Authority. Employees can help fill volunteer rosters for Habitat for Humanity builds, chaperone for field trips, science fairs, festivals, and other types of community building events in the capacity of help for those events.
Please make sure you have met the criteria and completed any requirements the school or organization has before you sign up to volunteer. Requirements such as completing a background check for the Albuquerque Public Schools or the Rio Rancho Public Schools, or whichever institutional clearance may be necessary as a prerequisite.
The requirement of the WUA to pay for you to attend the event:
The event needs to be on the Water Ways To Help Calendar, (this calendar will have all of our field trips, too) on the website at this link. If you are aware of a community event that you would like to volunteer for, but is not on the community calendar, please send a flier, forward an email, or have the event coordinator email Jeff Tuttle at jtuttle@abcwua.org, and we will get it on there.
If your supervisor agrees that your department can let you go for the 4 hours on the specified date, or if you are working after hours and can be compensated time off, they verify the event on the Water Ways To Help Calendar, fill out the form here. Afterward, if your supervisor officially approves, we then add your name to the event on the calendar, use “PLO-Volunteer” as your Kronos code.
Employees should wear clothing with a visible WUA logo/check out a WUA volunteer button badge from our Education Coordinator Jeff Tuttle at: jtuttle@abcwua.org. conduct themselves in a manner compatible with the expectation of “time on the job” and be good representatives of the WUA.
Once you have volunteered, submit whatever proof of your volunteer time that your supervisor requires to them, and then, if you would like to submit a photo of you in action for use on our Instagram, that would help spread the word! If your photo includes any minors, make sure to use our photo release form and retain proper guardian permission to send with picture, or blur out any minors that may be in your photo, and please send to our Communication Specialist Rachel Stone at: rstone@abcwua.org, and a copy to payroll@abcwua.org. We will put your name on the calendar under that event! Thank you for getting out and helping the community and representing the Water Authority!
