EMERGENCY RESPONSE TO JULY 10 WEST SIDE SEWER COLLAPSE
AUG. 12–Water Authority personnel provided an update at this week’s meeting of the Water Protection Advisory Board (WPAB) regarding the utility’s response to the July 10 sewer collapse at 64th and Hanover. Overflows resulting from the collapse were completely curtailed within less than 48 hours of the initial incident and there are no reports of lingering downstream contamination at this time. Some 3.7 million gallons of wastewater, however, migrated to the Rio Grande via the storm drain system before the spill ended on July 12.
