The Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority reached an agreement earlier this year with SouthWest Water Company to acquire New Mexico Utilities, Inc. and assume responsibility for providing water and sewer services in NMUI’s service area.

The acquisition was finalized on May 8, 2009. We welcome you as a new customer of the Water Authority, and are hopeful that you will notice little if any change in your service during this transition period. The Water Authority has hired NMUI’s employees to continue operating NMUI’s former water system and providing customer service.

Things that will stay the same:

• We will continue to maintain an office in NMUI’s former building at 4700 Irving Blvd. NW (although this location may change in the future).
• For the time being you will continue to receive and pay your water bill as you have in the past.
• The amount you pay for water will remain steady until July 2010.
• You can still pay your bill or view your statements online (using the links above)

Changes to be aware of:

As a Water Authority customer, you qualify for participation in our generous conservation rebate programs on everything from low-flow toilets to rainwater harvesting systems. Click here for more information.

• NMUI’s former service area will now be subject to the same water waste rules enforced elsewhere the Water Authority’s service area. Spray irrigation is not allowed between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. from April 1-November 1, and at no time is water allowed to run into the street. Click here for details.
• Rates for former NMUI residential customers will go up by about 3 percent in July of 2010 to bring their rates into alignment with the rest of the Water Authority’s service area.
