We know the quality of your drinking water is important to you. The Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority is proud that our drinking water continues to meet all state and federal drinking water quality standards – without exception – since the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Safe Drinking Water Act was passed in 1974.
- We want our customers to have accurate information about the quality of their drinking water. We are pleased to provide the Water Quality Report for 2010 with accurate information about drinking water quality from source to tap.
- For many years, ground water has been our only water source. In 2008, San Juan-Chama river water was added as another source. The San Juan-Chama Drinking Water Project was completed and treated surface water was served to customers in December 2008. Protecting the quality of our water sources is an important part of assuring a safe drinking water supply. The ABCWUA Water Quality Protection Board coordinates efforts of the City of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County to find and clean up contamination sources and promote source water protection and prudent use of water resources throughout the region. Visit the Source Water Protection web page for more information.
- The Water Authority Cross Connection Program protects water quality within the distribution system. Contaminants from cross-connected plumbing can backflow into drinking water supplies as well as contaminate the water supply inside a home. A backflow is just what it sounds like: water is flowing in the opposite direction from its normal flow. Businesses and institutions that use hazardous materials are required to install backflow prevention devices and all irrigation systems must have backflow prevention devices.
