Fire Hydrant -Green Top

To provide convenient access to water from fire hydrants, the Water Authority issues Fire Hydrant Meter Permits to qualified applicants needing water for construction and other projects.  The first step in obtaining a permit to use water from a hydrant is to submit a Permit Application.  Your signature on the application certifies that you agree to comply with all Condition of Service.   Upon receipt of your permit application, the Water Authority’s Customer Services Division will review the application and contact you within 3 business days for an appointment.

At the time of the appointment you are required to bring in these documents:

  • Designated Agent Form (if person coming in is not the company owner)
  • Copy of your NM Contractors License
  • W-9
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Required payment of $3241.50 ($3000.00 A Loss, Damage and Payment Surety Deposit plus a non refundable $241.50 connection fee)

Once the permit and the meter are issued, you must submit monthly meter readings between the 1st and 10 day of the month for usage during the previous calendar month.  Meter readings may be submitted to the Customer Services by mail or fax (see link below) or online by completing the Online Meter Reading Form.

Other fees that apply are:

  • $76.44 Monthly Maintenance Base Fee
  • Current ABCWUA  rate per unit of water (1 unit = 748 gallons)
  • $20.00 No Read / Late Read Fee
  • $50.00 Late Payment Fee

Note: Connections to fire hydrants at any location are prohibited except by the Utility, Fire Departments within the Service area or by written permit issued by the Executive Director (see ordinance - 168KB ). Use of a fire hydrant meter not owned and/or permitted by the ABCWUA or using a hydrant meter at any hydrant not approved under this permit constitutes Water Theft and/or Tampering which is a criminal offense with a penalty of up to $500.00 and/or 90 days in jail. For more information please refer to the conditions of service.
