Fire Hydrant Meter Program To provide convenient access to water from fire hydrants, the Water Authority issues Fire Hydrant Meter Permits to qualified applicants needing water for construction and other projects. The first step in obtaining a permit to use water from a hydrant is to submit a Permit Application. Your signature on the application certifies that you agree to comply with all Condition of Service. Upon receipt of your permit application, the Water Authority’s Customer Services Division will review the application and contact you within 3 business days for an appointment. At the time of the appointment you are required to bring in these documents:
Once the permit and the meter are issued, you must submit monthly meter readings between the 1st and 10 day of the month for usage during the previous calendar month. Meter readings may be submitted to the Customer Services by mail or fax (see link below) or online by completing the Online Meter Reading Form. Other fees that apply are:
Note: Connections to fire hydrants at any location are prohibited except by the Utility, Fire Departments within the Service area or by written permit issued by the Executive Director (see ordinance - 168KB ). The use of fire hydrants for your temporary water needs is a privilege, and the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority (WUA) will not tolerate abuse of this privilege. This includes illegal connections, water theft, vandalism, tampering, failing to replace caps, or damage caused by neglect. Improper connections may result in confiscation of the meter and related connection tools and equipment and termination of the permit. The WUA reserves the right to not issue a hydrant meter permit to any applicant who has violated this policy. A non-meter connection to a fire hydrant constitutes water theft and/or tampering and is a violation of the conditions of Water Authority service and shall be subject to a connection service charge of $400.00 per occurrence and shall be assessed up to $1000.00 charge for water usage. For more information please refer to the conditions of service. Below are all of the necessary forms for participation in the program.
