Water Festivals - Delivering Effective Water Education

water festival

We all need water for so many uses and as the human population grows, the quantity of water that we all need increases, also. But the quantity of water that we have on our planet is not increasing. This means that there will be difficult choices to be made.

Why a Water Festival?

The Middle Rio Grande Children's Water Festival is celebrated every year, and is for area 4th graders (only).

Our vision

  • Introduce students to new ideas, options and solutions so they will conserve and protect water for the future.
  • Lay the foundation for further learning.
  • Reach as many children as possible.

Project objectives

  • To educate students about water and its relationship to human and other natural resources in a fun and interactive atmosphere.
  • To help students understand that water is an essential and limited resource and what each of us can do to protect and conserve our precious water.
  • To present water-related facts, concepts and values through fun, hands-on learning activities.
  • To teach students about causes and prevention of non-point source pollution.
  • To provide water education resources to teachers.
  • To enable community organizations to participate in this water education program.
